For this post I wanted to show you the studio setup for a recent fashion editorial I had. The trick was the only lights avaliable were constant 1000w 6500K lights with no dimming feature. At first thought a serious nightmare.
The concept of the shoot was fairly simple and this time we had two models which needed to move around, so that meant 5 lights for even spread.

The trick was firstly lowering white balance to around 3500K on camera and putting as much diffusion as I could find. That meant that every light either got a softbox with inner baffel or a beauty dish with a grid. Control is everything in cases light this. After that the one plus of constant light becomes apparent. You see right away how the light looks. So all I had to do was placing them in such a way that both models looked properly lighted but still without overblown highlights.
The second problem we quickly felt came in a form of heat. So many constant light source gave away a lot of heat, and I mean a lot. So air conditioner turned to the max helped but not enough to be honest. I still had to turn off the lights between wardrobe and makeup fixes. Still I think the results were kinda awesome. When you have no choices but to make it work it becomes exhilarating figuring out what will look good.
